On Thursday March 31, 2011 I had the pleasure of meeting Illinois Governor Pat Quinn. Governor Quinn was here at Southwestern Illinois Community College in Belleville to make a huge announcement. The announcment was that the state of Illinois approved a 19 million dollar expansion of the Liberal Arts Building.
"One of the great things that Southwestern (Illinois College) is doing and other community colleges are doing is to understand the challenges of the green economy, a green way of thinking, a green way of acting and sustainability," Quinn said.
I had the opportunity to see the sketch of the new addition and although it looks to be very nice, I have some concerns. How can the state of Illinois afford to invest capital into our college while cutting programs which allow single parents to work or go to college?
Why are teachers being laid off all over the state?

thanks for posting the pic. You have some good questions, which I don't know how to answer. All I know is there are MANY concerns with all levels of education in Illinois. Money does not seem to be budgeted fairly or logically across the board. Let's all stay informed and let our voices heard.
